Understanding WWI

Visitors to the Musée de la Grande Guerre de Meaux can see how modern technology is used to tell the story of the First World War, and explain how and why it happened. Innovative scenography brings out this exceptional heritage. The main visit path plunges visitors into the period of tension just before the war, tells the story of life in the Marne trenches, then explains the consequences of the war on today's world.

The museum also has thematic areas exploring various different aspects of the conflict, including strategic questions, the evolution of weaponry, mobilisation of populations, the daily lives of prisoners, life in the trenches and in a reconstructed American camp, and the participation of men from the colonies.

All of these tours can be done with an audio guide that can be downloaded ahead of time on the museum website. The Musée de la Grande Guerre also offers temporary exhibits.
